Creating Time

Creating Time is my approach to time. It’s built on the premise that you can create time where there is no time, and use that time to make your life better.

The problem I have with “time management” is that that’s all it is: management. The core of these systems is the calendar: organizing, scheduling, tracking. They often miss what is, for me, the essential ingredient: the decisions you make and the reasons you make them. Thus, in the alternative method I call Creating Time, the core consists of decisions, followed closely by behaviors.

This page presents an overview of Creating Time, and includes some free tool downloads.

While it’s no longer my main gig, I still love teaching these principles and skills. Would you like your team to learn how to “create time?” You can find my contact info here.

What is Creating Time?

Creating Time is an approach to creating time where there is no time. Yes, this is a thing you can actually do, right within the 24 hours per day you already have.

Creating Time consists of two levels, Macro and Micro, each addressing six questions: Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. The Macro level asks high-level questions about you. Answering these questions helps you to clarify your goals and values, and provides the lens through which you answer the Micro-level questions. The Micro level asks questions about a task, project, or responsibility, helping you to make good decisions—values- and goals-based decisions—about what to do and how to go about it.
